What happens in my naturalization interview?

Whenever someone begins the naturalization process, it is a very exciting period of time. There are a lot of steps that need to be taken in order to complete the process, one of which includes the naturalization interview. You will be interviewed by a member of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to  determine to your eligibility. The interview will take place at your local USCIS office. It is crucial that you arrive at your interview on time and do everything in your power not to miss it. However, if you must miss your interview, you should reschedule it for as soon as possible in order to expedite the process. If you are forced to reschedule the interview, you may not be able to do so for a few months.

The questions that you will be asked during your interview pertain to your N-400 Form. This form just contains general information about yourself, your country of origin, your parents, your employment status, marital history, time spent outside of the United States, and a lot of other information. In addition to the questions regarding this form, you will also be required to take an English language test and a civics exam.

You don’t always find out the results of your interview and exams that day. In some instances, you may have to provide more information or have another interview altogether. If you have to continue your application, it may be because you didn’t provide the proper documentation to the USCIS, you failed one of the two exams, or you need to provide additional paperwork or evidence regarding your N-400 form.
